LAMAR FOOTBALL 2011 PREVIEW
BY COACH TRENT FULLER
“Viking Fight Never Dies”-- It is not just something we say; it is a way of life! From the classrooms to the athletic fields, I could not be more proud to be the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Lamar High School. Our players and coaches would like to thank the thousands of people that make Friday nights in Texas truly special. Thanks to the following for your endless year round efforts and support: our parents, booster club, fans, administration, faculty and staff, student council, student body, trainers, managers, filmers, band, cheerleaders, Vi-queens, Thor Corps, community members, chaplains, 7-on-7 coaches, Big man challenge supporters, and our future Vikings and their coaches. It is because of you that Lamar High School is a top notch school. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication!
This year we are expecting to take the football program to the next level. We are returning with an experienced, swarming defense and a young, talented, and exciting offense. Our players have worked extremely hard to make this football season special. We had a very successful off season, spring football and summer workouts. Our Big Man Challenges were a huge success in the turnout of participants and the fierce competition that was displayed! And for the 14th consecutive year our 7-on-7 team qualified for the state tournament! I would like to send a special thank you to Jim Poynter and his staff for making the 7-on-7 program unparalled by any other team in the state! As coaches, it is our goal that our players are better people by being a part of the Lamar football program. Friday night lights are finally here again!
It is impossible to walk through the halls or locker room at Lamar without feeling the strong tradition started by Coach Eddie Peach, his former staff members and former players. This year’s team hopes to improve on the 1st round playoff exits of the previous two seasons. The only guarantee that I will make is that the team will lay their heart on the line week in and week out! We are looking forward to an exciting 2011 football season. Viking Fight Never Dies!
